The construction of St Peter’s church in late Romanesque style with a vaulted roof started at the end of the 12th century. Disputes between the citizens of the town who were building the church and the high officials of the church, the Premonstratensian monastery in nearby Langenselbold, halted the construction work. The Pope prohibited further building of the church. It was only in the 20th century that it could become the Catholic parish church.
