The oldest monastery of the town was on the north side of the Obermarkt or Upper Market Place. It was founded in the first half of the 13th century and covers the whole area between the Obermarkt, Töpfergasse, Stadtschreiberei and Holzgasse. Three tall Romanesque windows can be seen on the house at the corner of Töpfergasse / Stadtschreiberei. These are remnants of one of the monastery churches which has been converted to secular use.
