The well of the Teutonic Order. The draw well of the Teutonic Order still exists in their former trading post in Holzgasse. The Teutonic Order of Sachsenhausen had been represented in Gelnhausen since 1303. The site now belongs to the Catholic community and the draw well is located in the garden behind the parish offices. It is 1.55 metres in diameter and has two square sectioned pillars with capitals bearing the cross-beam dated 1587. Above the cornice there is a semi-circular stone with two coats of arms. This stone and the pillars are crowned with stone spheres.
If you wish to visit the well, it is best to approach the staff of the Catholic kindergarten which can be reached from the lane Am Schlachthaus.
The construction of St Peter’s church started at the end of the 12th century.
It is a modern architectural decoration from 2002 designed by the Gelnhausen artist Achim Gogler.
